Is there discrimination?  There most certainly is.  There is discrimination in everything.  Have you forgotten that blacks got the right to vote before women?  If you are poor, or too fat, or too skinny, or autistic, or Muslim, or Jewish, or too short, or too tall, or have missing teeth, or a broken nose, or have an accent, or are clumsy, or are slow, or old, or young, or shy, or loud, or human; discrimination has touched you.

A woman stands at the counter in a convenience store, and another person walks up to the counter, the woman clutches her purse more tightly.  Is this discrimination? Or is it self preservation? Or maybe insecurity? Or vulnerability?  Don't assume you know what another person is thinking.   Cut your fellow human being some slack. It's not all about you.  It doesn't matter in the above scenario if the women is black or white, or if the second individual is black or white or male or female.   It's got nothing to do with discrimination, but rather human nature.  People are insecure and are wary of what they don't know and who they don't know.  If you assumed the woman clutching her purse was white, you are racist.  If you assumed the person who walked up to the counter was male you are sexist.  If you assumed the woman clutching her purse did so because she was afraid of the person approaching the counter, you are assuming too much.  Maybe she has panic attacks in crowds and is trying to hold her anxiety in check.  Do any of these things make you a bad person?  Not unless you treated that person differently because of your assumption.  You may be missing important information.

Are you being profiled? Absolutely.   When investigating a murder, profiles are created to determine the most likely suspects.  Profiles are necessary and used in every facet of society. Most companies create profiles on their customers, to determine the best match for their products.  The synonym for 'profiling'  is 'marketing'.

If racism, sexism, or class has given you an opportunity that another might not have gotten, is that wrong?  Of course it is?  Would you not take the opportunity if it meant your family eats or has a roof over their heads?  More importantly, would you share your fortune or allow your neighbors family to go without food?  Be grateful for what you have, share if you have more than you need.  Make the world a better place by being respectful and make the most of every opportunity.   Give a hand up to your neighbor raising up the entire neighborhood.  Just try to be the best human being you can.  Maybe we need to spend less time thinking about what color, religion, political affiliation or gender anyone is and more time wondering if I treated you as I wish you would treat me.
