Tough Times Ahead - Originally written June 17, 2022

They tell us that we are on the brink of a recession.  I believe it.  But this one is different.  The HAVES are going to lose millions in bit coins and stocks but they have so much it won't hurt them at all. They might have to give up one of their trips to some exotic vacation spot somewhere or not buy that new sports car they wanted, but the HAVE NOTS... Well, they will be tightening their belts so tight that it will be hard to breath.  And that's not good because they probably have dropped their health insurance because food and a roof over their head was more important than paying for something they are hoping to never have to use. But they do need the insurance.  Their health is suffering because the insurance companies are forcing them to get tests they don't need, but are not treating them for the conditions they do have.  I have a niece who has been experiencing the same issue for over 4 years, but every time she goes to the doctor, they give her the same tests because the insurance companies require them before they allow the doctors to give her a CT scan which is what she needs.  She has to pay co-pays so she can't afford to keep going to the doctor if they continue to give her the same tests over and over again.

I have so much stuff that I want to get rid of and can't find anyplace to take it, so I would prefer to give it to someone who can use it.  I have several friends in the same position.  For instance, I have a large container of Tylanol that I can't use.  It is practically new, but I'll probably end up throwing it away because you can't donate the stuff and it's considered unsafe if it is open.  But I have to get rid of it because the hubby isn't allowed to take it any longer due to his heart condition.   I don't use them.  We bought in bulk to save money, but now we don't need it.  I don't want it to end up in a landfill because that is just wrong.  My relatives are too far away and shipping is too expensive.  So what's a girl to do with it?

It's not new, but do you need new if it's free?  Don't buy anything without talking to friends and relatives first.  It will save you thousands and it will keep from putting more money into the hands of the HAVES.

Give that baby clothes to the next mom to be.  It's OK to say, "I'm in need of baby clothes and supplies. Do you have any that you want to get rid of?"  Or maybe your a mom with two toddlers and you see that young pregnant gal at the park.  It's ok to ask her if she would like some of the clothes and supplies you no longer use.  Use the internet to network. Our neighborhood has a Google Group, where you can post things to sell or trade or give away.  It keeps things local, so you don't have to drive very far and you get something you want, and they get rid of something they don't want.

We trade a lot of perennials, and vegetables.  If you have one zucchini plant, you have too much zucchini!
