Nine months Old with a new Brother

BJ and Doc ready for hunting season
Doc is now just about 9 months old and since my last writing he has a new brother (cousin actually).  BJ came to us 2 months after receiving Doc.   BJ's (aka Moses) family had to move to New York and because of the size limits on dogs in their new housing complex, they were not able to take BJ with.  I personally won't move to New York for all the money in the world.  I'm a country gal through and through.  Doc is growing up fast and he can be an angel and a devil in the same 60 seconds.  But he's my little devil.  BJ is still trying to figure out where he fits in and he fits beautifully.  BJ and Doc are almost attached at the hip.  They do everything together.  BJ is currently 30" at the shoulders.  He is big, did I say BIG...I meant really BIG.   The previous family were not familiar with Briards and were told things by their vet and groomer that weren't true.  So poor BJ had his dew claws removed and the groomer shaved the area around his eyes, so he almost looks like a Newfee.  I'm hoping it grows out because to me it looks a little weird.  But weird or not, he has taken hold of our hearts and can shake them at will.

Deer hunting season is upon us and so I thought (and I do this every year and don't seem to learn) I would make them hunting vests.  They are big dogs and they do run in the corn field next to the house, so from a distance a REALLY DRUNK hunter might think they were deer.   God help a hunter that shoots at my dogs. (Just sayin').   I found some trick or treat bags at the Goodwill that say "No Tricks, Just Treats" and were blaze orange so they would work beautifully. I disconnected the handles and reattached them in a way that one went around the head and the other went behind the front legs.  Considering they only cost me a about 80 cents a piece and a little time, I was pretty proud of myself.  Doggy sweaters cost over $30 a piece and that's for the little ones.  I would need the wool from over 3 sheep just for BJ.

So decked out in their new cleverly designed very cheap hunting outfits, they were looking pretty dapper.  There was only one problem....they only lasted for three days.   I watched them carefully the first 2 days and then went to work and the hubby didn't watch them as closely and .....the dogs came back in shreads only.  The two dogs thought they were something that needed shreadding and from the sounds of it, had a really great time doing it.   Oh well.  Being the frugal gal that I am, I still use the shreads to tie onto their harnesses to be sure they are still wearing some orange.   It doesn't look all that great, but hopefully it will deter DRUNK HUNTERS.

The great white hunter has returned from his morning hunt, so I'm off to make something to eat.  Packer game is on today, so we will hunker down and watch.  Have a safe Hunting season everyone.
