This year we made the choice to enjoy Christmas. Other than a trip to the grocery store to get supplies (because in small towns they close stores for Christmas Eve and Christmas), we have avoided the stores completely. You don't have to buy a million presents and put yourself in debt. You don't have to visit all the relatives and travel in blizzards. It is a choice.
This year my choice is to stay home with my dear husband and make a lovely dinner. We have decided to work on a project that we never seem to have time to do and have fun doing it. Our project is to design a stain glass window for our bathroom that we are remodeling. If we can agree on a design, we might even get it made. There is suppose to be a blizzard coming in to our area over Christmas, and we might not even notice. We will be warm and toasty at home.
No we don't have kids and people with kids don't have to stress out either. Your kids just want to have fun. So find something to work on as a family. Instead of buying presents, have each person in the family give a gift that doesn't cost anything and put it in writing and wrap it up just like a regular gift. This is how gift certificates were invented! A child could give the gift of doing the dishes for a week or taking out the garbage without complaining. Let the person receiving the gift designate when they want to receive the gift. My mom use to love these kinds of gifts when we were kids.
So what will your choice be?
